Adventures Abroad – Mary Goes Global

Mary has been having some incredible adventures, both in the US and abroad.  Here she visited Lisa Misakian ‘78 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Lisa Misakian ’78 brought Mary with her on a consulting assignment to lead a compensation workshop among Human Resources practitioners working for globally operating NGO’s throughout Africa.

Lisa writes:  “I brought Mary along with me on a consulting assignment to lead a compensation workshop among Human Resources practitioners working for globally operating NGO’s throughout Africa.  The workshop was part of InsideNGO’s Operations Week in Africa.  Almost all my students were women (we did have one young man in class), and I truly felt proud to share this part of Mount Holyoke’s education/missionary history with my students.  We took our class photo on Wednesday, February 26 on the grounds of Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.  Mary is being held by one of my students in the front row, and that’s me on the left, just under the “K” in the “Kumbayah Hall” sign. The photo is currently on InsideNGO’s Facebook page about Operations Week, so many involved in strengthening the operations of globally operating NGO’s are seeing our Mary on this historic visit to Nairobi.”

Mary Lyon also joined Patrice McCarthy Kirshbaum ’78.  Together they visited the Reichstag in Berlin, Germany.

Take Mary to Work Wednesday!

Today is once again Bring Mary to Work Wednesday!  Lots of alumnae have  printed their very own picture of Mary and brought her with them, and they have shared their stories with us.

Today we would like to highlight the Mount Holyoke Archives and Special Collections for being so thoughtful in sharing their time with Mary.  Throughout the month the MHC ACS has shown Mary how to prepare displays, review old course catalogs, and how to create their now infamous zines and buttons!  (They also invited her to tea!)  Check out the MHC-ASC Tumblr to see all of Mary’s adventures, and for a wonderful behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in this exciting department.

64’s skiing at Okemo – Mary Goes Global

As we are experiencing yet another snow storm here in South Hadley, it seems fitting to share this  wonderful photo of some members of the class of 1964’s skiing with Mary at Okemo.

Nancy Goff describes their wonderful experience: “Carol Nagy Theodore hosted us for a delightful two days of skiing. Sarah was the star of the show successfully conquering the hill after a hiatus of 40 years of not skiing. Carol and Joan were the experts on hand with Carol providing all of us with great lessons for the two days. Caroline and Nancy slid along. We all had a great time on the slopes and sleeping at Carol’s lovely farm house. Mary Lyon accompanied us to the slopes as shown in the pictures. Cheers from all of us in Vermont.”

We also were sent a wonderful photo from  Trish Palmiere ’93.   Trish says “I took Mary out to my job site at the Longfellow Bridge in Boston today and even gave her a stylish hard hat to boot.  I’m one of the Project Managers for the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation project – a multi-year renovation of this historic bridge.  I work specifically on the masonry restoration part of the project and very soon those towers you see will be removed for various repairs!”
