Do you know that oral entrance examinations called for both exactly remembered facts and phrases in grammar, United States history, geography, and elementary psychology, and for rapid solving of arithmetic problems?  Understandably, these exams presented major hurdles to some of the young ladies (Green, 1979, p. 182).
