FebruMary Fact of the Day – Feb. 10

When Mary Lyon was setting out to raise funds for Mount Holyoke, her goal was to raise enough money to found a permanently endowed school for young women, organized and financed like the burgeoning colleges for men: buildings and equipment would be provided from gifts administered by an independent board of trustees, not by proprietors intent on making profits (Green, 1979, p. 3).

FebruMary facts come from the book Mary Lyon and Mount Holyoke, Opening the Gates, by Elizabeth Alden Green.
