Like many Mount Holyoke alumnae and students, while Mary Lyon was a student she was reported to have studied every waking moment, except for hurried meals, and to have slept an average of four hours a night (Green, 1979, p.18).
*We do not recommend that anyone try this… sleep is important! and friends! and M&Cs!
It was while Mary was a student at Sanderson Academy that she performed the feat that became legendary in the hill towns: learning the whole of a Latin grammar text in three days (one of the extra studies assigned partly to keep her from getting too far ahead of the rest of the class) (Green, 1979, p.18).
